Prelude on 'The Lone, Wild Bird'

Image of Prelude on 'The Lone, Wild Bird'

This piece is a metaphor for Christ's life. The opening canonic two-voice passage paints a picture in sound of two doves swooping and diving as if they are swallows or even falcons. One can interpret this passage as depicting Christ being followed closely by his disciples. In the middle section, chromatic chords depict the passion of Christ, but soon we recognize that Christ has arisen and hear the return of the two-voice canon from the beginning.
